#SGSevens: D-2!

Published on 23/05/2018

The 5th #SGSevens men’s and women’s rugby 7s University Championship of France will be held on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 May 2018, in the Gilbert Moga Stadium at La Teste-de-Buch (Gironde).

The #SGSevens championship was founded by Societe Generale in 2014 in partnership with the French University Sports Federation (FFSU) and the French Rugby Federation (FFR). It pits against each other the 36 best university rugby 7s teams in France, selected through regional qualifying phases.

Over two days, 432 male and female student players will contest more than 100 matches, all battling to win one of the 3 Champion of France titles: Elite masculine, Elite feminine and Schools masculine. At stake: a fully paid trip to a leg of the 2019 World Rugby 7s Series.

This 5th edition will be hosted by two specially invited legends of the sport: Shannon Izar, rugby international in both XV and 7 codes, ex-champion of France and world runner-up at university level, and Jean-Pascal Barraque, the rugby 7s international.

Two other French internationals Thibaud Mazzoleni and Paulin Riva will also be present throughout the tournament.

On Friday, the whole France rugby 7s team and staff will be working out on La Plaine des Sports training ground at La Teste-de-Buch as part of their preparations.

Alongside the sporting competition, which is free and open to the public, a number of events are planned:

- Download the #SGSevens app for IOS or Android and, wherever you are, you can follow the event with team sheets, fixture list, live results, rankings, links to social media as well as getting updates on your favourite teams.

- A village with numerous stands and events for players and public, specially designed for this great festival of student rugby 7s.

- Round-table sessions, led by Frédéric Pomarel, Technical Director of the Overseas Territories League and ex-trainer of the French rugby 7s squad.
